An McDowell, a peace activist and a member of the local quilt guild, is organizing a quilt project to honor the life of Joyce Vandevere. Participants are invited to create a quilt square to pay tribute to Joyce’s life as an advocate for peace, nonviolence, and social justice. The quilt will hang on the wall of the Peace Center in Seaside.

Here are the details:
- The target date for contributions is July 4th, 2021.
- The vision is to create a 27″ x 36″ (or possibly larger) quilt which
will be mounted as a wall-hanging. - The quilt will be created from 24 squares of cotton fabric measuring 6 ½” x 6 ½”.
- The design must be no larger than 5″ x 5″ to allow for a border around the square.
- The squares can be decorated with a message of peace and hope or remembrance of Joyce
- The following mediums/techniques are requested – in any and all colors of the rainbow:
- Photos. An will apply the iron-on transfer.
- Digital photos can be emailed to An as an attachment. Email-to: anmcd311@gmail.com.
- Paper photos can be mailed by regular mail to 1410 Manor Road, Monterey CA, 93940.
- Appliqué, (stitched or sewn),
- Embroidery,
- Acrylic paint,
- Beading, (stitched or glued on),
- Script or images using permanent pens or markers.

- An will add a color border to each square and then sew them together.
- The patchwork will be laid upon a peace-themed cotton print so that it creates a border around the entire quilt.
