The 2008 film, Etz Limon (Lemon Tree), directed by Eran Riklis, is inspired by a true incident. It tells the story of Salma Zidane, (Hiam Abbass), a Palestinian widow who tries to hang on to the lemon grove her family has tended for decades. When the Israeli Defense Minister and his wife move into the neighboring property, he demands, for security reasons, that the lemon trees be cut down. As Salma embarks on a legal quest to defend her trees, she finds an unlikely ally in the Defense Minister’s wife. 106 minutes, in Arabic and Hebrew with subtitles.
