Yearning to Breathe Free: Protecting the Human Rights of Undocumented Immigrants – Thurs, Nov 14, 7pm at the Peace Resource Center

A panel discussion with Azadeh Shahshahani, President of the National Lawyers Guild, Director of the National Security/Immigrants’ Rights Project at the American Civil Liberties Union of Georgia and Blanca ZarazúaHonorary Consul of Mexico, President of Monterey County La Raza Lawyers Association, Chair of the Monterey County Hispanic Chamber of Commerce.

The number of people deported under Obama has risen in each of his four years in office, culminating in the record set in fiscal year 2012.  According to ACLU legislative counsel Joanne Lin, these deportations have left a “wake of devastation in Latino communities across the nation.”  Monterey County leads the nation in the number of deportations of undocumented immigrants without criminal records.

Join two distinguished attorneys for a discussion of the detention conditions of undocumented immigrants and efforts to protect their human rights.
