Bi-Lingual Film Festival at the Peace Resource Center:  El Mar Adentro  / The Sea Inside

Based on the life story of Ramón Sampedro, a former sailor left a quadriplegic at a young age after a diving accident.  The film follows Ramón’s struggle to win the right to end his life with dignity and explores his relationships with two women.  Julia, a lawyer, supports his cause, and Rosa wants to convince him that life is worth living.   Despite his wish to die, the poet Ramón taught them both lessons about the meaning and preciousness of life.   Javier Bardem’s portrayal of Sampredo earned him the Best Actor award at the 2004 Venice Film Festival.
