The Peace Resource Center offers free English as a Second Language classes as an outreach program to the people of the surrounding community.  These classes aim to meet two needs.  One is the need for free classes in a convenient neighborhood meeting place that adult English learners can easily access.  The second is the need for serious students to participate in small, intensive classes or tutoring sessions that will help them improve their English skills and employment opportunities as quickly as possible.

Private funding was secured for the first sessions of classes which took place Summer, 2009, and Fall, 2010.  Word of mouth, and our highly visible location on Fremont Blvd. brought an enthusiastic response to the program.  The classes were so well received that we are now seeking local sponsorship to fund classes on an ongoing basis.  Operating costs are modest, and donations of any size are welcome.  (See below.)

Volunteer teachers and tutors are always needed to participate in the program.  Please contact us if you would like to observe a class, or get more information about volunteering.

Students can register for one or more classes at the Peace Center Wednesday or Saturday from 1:00 and 5:30.

The current class offerings are as follows:

Monday – Lunes:  evening tutoring hours by appointment only.  Please visit the Peace Resource Center to sign up.

Tuesday – Martes:   6:00-8:00pm

Wednesday – Miercoles:  6:00 – 8:00pm

Thursday – Jueves:  6:00-8:00pm

(No classes Fridays, Saturdays, or Sundays)

Enhancing communication among neighbors is a concrete way for us in the Peace  Community to think globally and act locally for peace through understanding. If you would like to help support this program, please write  your check to “MPJC” [Monterey Peace and Justice Center -- our parent organization] and send it to P.O. Box 1851, Monterey, CA 93942.  Please write  “ESL Program” on the Memo line.

Or go to the Join Us! page to make a donation online through our PayPal account.
